Goals for 4 year olds

Spiritual:

  • To know who Jesus is
  • To learn to pray and that God answers prayer
  • To know that the Bible is God’s truth
  • To know that God is always with us watching over us
  • To learn to love God’s words through Bible stories and songs

Cognitive:

  • To be able to recognize and print own name (using proper case)
  • To recognize most letters (upper and lower case) at random
  • To be able to recognize most letter sounds
  • To be able to receive and perform 3 verbal directions
  • To be able to reproduce common shapes and patterns
  • To have a general understanding of time (seasons, months, weeks, and days)
  • To be able to match and name shapes and colors
  • To be able to recognize and understand the concept of numbers 1-20
  • To recognize opposites
  • To recognize rhyming words when listening to nursery rhymes
  • To be able to pair related items
  • To be able to express oneself in complete sentences

Physical:

  • To be able to identify one’s own body parts
  • To be able to identify left and right sides of the body
  • To be able to walk, run, and march with coordination
  • To be able to bounce and catch an 8 to 12 inch ball
  • To develop good balance on the balance beam
  • To be able to dress oneself (fastening snaps, hooks, buttons, and zippers)
  • To develop left to right eye movement
  • To be coordinated when using paint, glue, etc. and
    proficient when using scissors

Social:

  • To show sympathy and kindness to others
  • To be able to share and take turns
  • To be able to listen and follow directions
